After having been sent home from work on Thursday in the middle of the heaviest snowfall and ugliest traffic- reminds me that you should look into monitoring the CSP and local fire depts along your routes. My scanner and my listening to it kept me from being immobilized on I-25 because I knew to not go there.

CSP are the ones being paged out to crashes and reporting on road conditions and the state of mayhem. Local FDs respond to crashes. Local county deputies also report road conditions and crashes to their dispatchers. And the freq/talkgroup info is readily available on this website.

You could use this info until you figure out how to listen to the busses and then whether they reveal the info you need in enough time for you to benefit.
