In doing so, as I travel within the coverage area of each system, the 996 would lock onto the appropriate system. The TG list would contain TG's for both systems. Will this work?

Thanks!
It will work IF The two systems can not be heard by the bcd996t at the same time. If this is a automobile station I would not do it because as you travel around you are likely to have areas where you can hear and decode both control channels and the radio will lock onto one control channel then exit that group and then lock onto the next control channel.
If the control channels are very far apart, a 150 miles or so it should work fine, but if they can be heard at the same time by the BCD996T do not attempt because you will miss transmissions due to the fact the bcd996t is going to lock on to either one of the control channels.
