I modified a Maxrad 800 mhz PVC base antenna. I cut some off the top and bottom of the element in 1/8" increments and using a network analyzer and a friend whom knows how to operate the analyzer was able
to tune it within about 15 min.

I then used an old 800-1000 mhz TX RX preamp and set it for 1050 mhz because they are plenty broad anyway.

This is mounted on a tower up about 70' and feed with 1/2" helax.

I can regularly see out about 250 nm except to the southeast where I suspect I have some sheilding from hills off about 30 to 50 miles.
