KVNY Van Nuys tower feed now live on the web

My co-worker lives right under the approach to the famous runway 16 Right, he has just completed setting up the feed. KVNY is one of the busiest GA airports in the country. When I fly in sometimes, I can hardly squeeze in a call between radio traffic before entering their airspace.

And it's just in time to start hearing LAPD's helicopters depart, land, and pass through their airspace. Their downtown "Hooper Heliport" is undergoing construction, so all of LAPD's helicopters will be temporarily based at Van Nuys, as their King Air 200 fixed wing is already. I just heard "Van Nuys Helicopter" (on 119.0 I think) asking Air 21 how many aircraft they should expect to have up active at any given time. The reply was "Police 21 to Van Nuys Helicopter, usually three patrol ships, up to three training ships, and maybe two surveillance ships."

Helos in the greater LA area, including police, fire, and media, usually coordinate with each other on 123.025. LAPD's copters use 484.7125 (P25 digital) among themselves and to monitor for "hotshot" calls citywide.

Good info Radio Lady! I was wondering why all the PD copter were coming into "Air-ops" hangers. I heard a Cessna call mayday with an engine failure land on 16L yesterday too. It can be found on the liveatc.net audio archives at (June 4th, 2300 Z at 29:21 min into the file., "Cessna 9SP",) Sounds like he made it down ok, tower did a great job clearing everyone out of his way.

I spoke to the owner, and the upgrade to a Uniden BC 898T sounds great now that the audio is coming from the line-out jack.

At first I thought the site was down, but found that the 898T drops the audio completely when squelched. The former radio never really turned off the audio so there was always some background hiss.

I was kind of worried when I first tuned in. Nice upgrade!
