And it's just in time to start hearing LAPD's helicopters depart, land, and pass through their airspace. Their downtown "
Hooper Heliport" is undergoing construction, so all of LAPD's helicopters will be temporarily based at Van Nuys, as their King Air 200 fixed wing is already. I just heard "Van Nuys Helicopter" (on 119.0 I think) asking Air 21 how many aircraft they should expect to have up active at any given time. The reply was "Police 21 to Van Nuys Helicopter, usually three patrol ships, up to three training ships, and maybe two surveillance ships."
Helos in the greater LA area, including police, fire, and media, usually coordinate with each other on 123.025. LAPD's copters use 484.7125 (P25 digital) among themselves and to monitor for "hotshot" calls citywide.
