Default Hidden Air Frequencies

Howdy All,
I spend a fair amount of time listening to app/dep freqs around my local airports but would like to know if anyone has access to the "secret" freqs that pilots and crews use. I heard of a pilot air to air frequency once that was fun to listen to but cant remember what it was. Does anyone have anything like that?
thanks
Dan

Most airports usually use other frequencies and bands for things like taxi service, luggage, security and food prep. Our local BMI airport has a rptr. on 463.475mhz. Also some air terminals have channels set aside for military transports as well in the 225-400mhz. Mil-air band.

Around the Baltimore Md. area, fixed wings and helos involved with traffic reporting are often heard in the 122-124 mhz area; I think the pilots assume that we can't hear them, because the language can be quite - how shall we put this - colorful?

Don't tell them otherwise, hi 73 Mike

123.450 is a common air-to-air chat frequency.

Default Hidden air to air freqs.

The official air to air frequencies are:

122.75 MHz Fixed wing aircraft (very little heard)

123.025 MHz Rotory wing aircraft (some comms here but mostly official)

123.45 MHz Tansoceanic unofficial (almost non-stop gossip, kind of like listening to the Howard Stern radio show)

I have monitored vhf aviation for many years & Brandon is right, 123.45 MHz is the frequency to listen to, you wouldn't believe what these local pilots discuss because they mistakenly believe that only international flights use it while transversing The Atlantic & Pacific oceans, I have 123.45 MHz on the priority setting in one of my scanners, if they only knew, better yet, if their wives only knew. Another group of interesting frequencies to listen to are ARINC & the airline company channels, All conversations heard are non ATC related but can be quite humorous to downright chilling. They are: 122.825 MHz, 122.875 MHz, 128.825 MHz to 132.0 MHz & 136.5 MHz to 136.975 MHz. Check the site below for the VHF aviation frequency allocation.

Here in the Chicago area I regularly monitor 123.450 and hear a ton of Air to Air. I also hear a bunch of A-A on 123.425 and 123.475. Choppers of course are on 123.025 all the time, especially during rush hour when the traffic services are working.

I like to search 122.0-123.6. Anything above or below this can be ATC talking to airplanes.

If you have a scanner with a search function works very well, however you need to beak it down into segments and make a list of the freqs you hear and how often you hear them, especailly if your listening to mil-air. Via search i have been able to find various airline freqs for the local airports along with FBO freqs along with some new ATC frequencies that were not in the database.

In all my years in the commercial airline world, 123.45 is the only BS freq I have ever heard of or used. Also, its not that the crews are under any misconception that they cannot be heard, the just don't care.

I haven't listened to it in a while, but around KPTK, 122.75 was the "practice area" frequency. Also heard some "colorful" language on this frequency.
