I made my own collinear out of 1/2" Heliax. The antenna fits perfectly into 1" (Inner Diameter) PVC. It's about 5' tall.

To be honest, I use the mini mag mount that came with the dongle. I know, it is not cut precisely for the ADS-B frequency, but with it, I can track aircraft over 200 miles away!

My house is just west of St Louis where the red arrow is pointing. The aircraft in the red circle is headed for O'Hare in Chicago... and was over 200 miles away from me!

At some point, I lose contact with aircraft too much further away because the curvature of the earth gets in the way so I don't really know how much help a better antenna would be.
