NYCenter or Chicago 12.5000 ??

I'm hearing a lot of traffic on 128.5000 tonight and I'm hearing both sides of the conversation (air and controller). It sounds to me like it is a NY Center frequency but I find no mention of it in the databases other than Chicago. Since I'm in Pennsylvania (northeast) and since I'm hearing both sides of the conversation I don't think it is Chicago. Any ideas out there?

New York Center has a sector named Elk Mountain that uses 128.5. That's my best guess since there's an Elk Mountain there in PA.

Check out this link here in the database section http://www.radioreference.com/module...ame=RR&stid=36

Scroll down and you can see the freqs for the NY center. When in doubt check the appropriate state page hear on the database for the center freqs such as the Illinois page for the Chicago center freq info.

I have discovered a new found interest in monitoring civil/military (what little I DO hear) aviation with my PRO-2055 scanner I purchased around Thanksgiving '05.

Could someone steer me to a site that will explain the terminology that is used between the a/c and the ground centers(?)?

I live on the southshore of Long Island NY, so I have a good number of flights a day to listen too.

I always keep a current US IFR Supplement in Adobe Acrobat on my computer desktop. A quick search for 128.5 showed me every facility using that frequency and then I just narrowed it down to the PA area manually.

The IFR Supplement gets mentioned here on RR fairly often and it's being talked about today on the other active milair thread.

Scroll approx half way down to "Enroute Supplements"
Then right-click on "U.S. IFR Supp" and select save as... (or however your browser software saves files)
It's approx 17.4 MB.

On 1 OCT 06 these products are going to be removed from the publicly available web site. There's more info on this inside the IFR Supp front cover.
