What does this Lingo mean?

I'm sure this is a noob question but I have been unable to piece it together.

When I listen to our little airport (KANE) general aviation, little single engine 4 passenger etc. They will say something to the effect "we are 10 miles out by the Shoreview Towers (these are huge TV towers) with Romeo. What in Romeo?

I understand phonetics are but I have no clue what they are telling me in this case, I assume it means with R whatever R is.

I have heard other conversions end with other identifies as well, with Papa, etc.

The pilot is telling ATC he has listed to ATIS. Each hour the ATIS info updated and so does the letter. That way ATC knows that the pilot has listened to the latest ATIS information. More information can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Terminal_Information_Service.
