possible explosion at abc coke in tarrant. 1 injured, northstar responded. this was reported on 155.85 tarrant police channel on 2-8-08 @ 14:10. Did anyone else hear about it . i assume it was not a big deal as it was not mentioned on the news. Does anyone know what channel northstar paramedic uses?

I believe NorthStar uses SouthernLinc. I've seen them on scenes with radios that look like SouthernLinc. If that's the case, you can't monitor them.

I didn't hear about the incident. I was with a buddy who works for Birmingham and volunteers for Tarrant and he didn't mention it. I'm sure he would have if there had been anything to it.

Good luck!

Confirmed that NorthStar uses Southern Linc, at least in NorthWest Alabama. Of course they have a VHF/UHF radio to mutual aid on local frequencies and the HEAR.

Anyone know what happened? I used to be a maintenance supervisor at USS coke works. I would really like to know. Coke works batteries, or by-products can be very dangerous. I don't think they run the "pre-heat" anymore. That thing was very unstable.

Rich,

I did a search of the Birmingham News website and the last story they had about the ABC Coke plant was in November - "Fall on job costs worker an arm"

It must not have been much because they're good about posting breaking news stories, as well as stories that will be in the paper.

Hope that helps.

It sounded like 1 person injured and northstar was called. more news from blount county on 1-10-08, trailer fire on hwy 160, sounds like it was put out pretty quick. Chicken house fire on hwy 278. On 2-11-08, Woods fire on elvester church road in trafford. approximately 2 acres. All reported on blount fire dispatch 158.835. I suppose fire conditions are favorable right now. I sure wish this forum would allow wireless posts (from cell phone browsers), then i could post in a more timely manner.

I dont know if anything really happened, the caller to 911 must have thought there was an explosion, because the dipatcher said "possible explosion". Did you see that abc coke is dissasembling the big tank by clements auto that blew up years ago?
