Default Gulf Shores / Foley

While I am vacationing down here for a week, I put in the Gulf Shores PD/FD and the Foley PD/FD. I am hearing them ok WHEN they say something. Wow these are some low traffic departments. I could never work here due to extreme boredom. Maybe thats why their pay is so low compared to my big, never stop talking, work myself to death, city.

Yeah, its boring down there. My bother has a condo there, and I have been down there a few times.

About the only interesting thing I heard on a scanner there was a male talking to his wife, or girl friend on a cordless phone, a few years ago.

He said to her "you are in a bar drunk agin, and I am sitting here in this apartment by myself. Come on home. You are out there drunk, having a good time, and I am lonely. Why do you have to get drunk all the time. Ect. It was so funny!

I went down there in 04 for hurricane Ivan. We stayed in the Orange Beach Recreation Center, slept many nights in their local gym. I work for NDMS ( disaster medical response). Very nice group of guys down there.
We had medical treatment in Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and had a crew in the hospital in Foley. The condos along the ocean were just pummeled with all the bath tubs all piled up in one place for some reason. Fire guys were very nice to us. They actually didn't have a lot of radio traffic back then either.

My nephew was down there right after he graduated from High School. A female step out in front of his vehical and she was killed. He was not charged with anything, was under the speed limit, ect. The police told him, that situation happened quite often there. He still felt bad about it.

Heading to Orange Beach for a week starting Saturday. I always take my scanner(s) to check things out. Listening to the MURS/FRS frequencies is funny sometimes. You should hear the kids, that have no idea that someone is listning to their conversations! Otherwise, it is slow.

I'll be down there next week. We usually stay at the Fort Morgan area instead of the Gulf Shores and there is NOTHING to hear around Fort Morgan. Last year we spent one night in Gulf Shores and 3 nights in Fort Morgan. The only interesting thing was the beach service (rents out the chairs on the beach) and search and rescue. I didn't really even hear anything on the Marine freqs, and just little kids on FRS/GMRS.

While we are on the topic, the condos we stay at have security and maintanence that carry vhf radios. What frequencies might they be using? I could use close call but before that I'd like to scan for them.

My family has been staying in Gulf Shores for the past 10 years so I know the roads, but I will say that it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the main roads in Gulf Shores so if something interesting happens you can find it.

It is slow I have had my scanner down there and the traffic was very light. However sounds like a good place to live.

Default Going down to Gulf Shores on the 26th

Anyone have a p96 file they would want to share with anyone? I have the program and have been trying to set some stuff up but wanted to check to see if anyone had one already done and willing to share. You can email to the address on the profile.

Thanks

Doug from Louisville Ky

Default Orange Beach

Best freq to monitor in Orange Beach when I was there in 2004 was Perdido Beach Service on 464.900. This freq was also used at night by some police for surveillance.

I could also (barely) pick up Ike's Beach Service on 461.625

I couldn't receive Orange Beach/Baldwin County public safety VHF frequencies very well for some reason so I primarily monitored 464.900.

Hi Doug:

I've attached a .p96 file to this post (rename it to a .p96 after downloading it to your PC.) It has Baldwin County in it, as well as all counties from Montgomery to Baldwin along Interstate 65.

However, its been over a year and a half since I updated it, but it should be a good start.

Take care,

Warren

I just got back from Gulf Shores(Fort Morgan, to be exact). I left on Monday and stayed at the Gulf Shores Platation.

The best and most active frequencies to monitor are the Beach Club(large condo development, radios can be heard for more than 25 miles), Ike Beach Service, Perdido Beach Service, Medstar(ambulance service for this area), Orange Beach Fire, and Gulf Shores Fire. You might also want to keep FRS/GMRS freqs programmed in; these can be entertaining, and if you have one of the FRS radios you can mess with people(not that I do that ). Gulf Shores PD, and Orange Beach PD were not that active; mostly traffic stops and ETOH.

On a side note, the Beach Club is in Fort Morgan and around 18 miles from Gulf Shores, and I could easily hear their radio traffic from around 25 miles away.

I also answered my own question a few posts up, the Gulf Shores Plantation uses 464.55 for all operations.

Bob. I use my vx5 and mess with the kiddos on the FRS. Gives me better reception and better "punch" out of the condo...Wish we stayed on an upper floor so I could hook up a mag mount or yagi for the scanner and really listen.

Thanks for the information

Escambia County Florida is like living in the Wild West, lol. I always monitor them for the fact they always have some kind of action going on. Just last night SWAT was involved in another stand-off. That’s the second one in 10 days. If you want gang activity, drugs, shootings, car chases, stand-offs, fires, auto wrecks, police/K9 brutality, etc, Escambia county is the place to monitor.

I also just got back from Orange Beach. I jotted down a lot of frequencies, mostly from the Perdido area. I know a lot of the LTR systems had NO ACTIVITY AT ALL on them. Someone locally should really monitor the systems and have them removed if their not active! The last updates for those systems were in 2007. I had some problems with the EDACS systems. I haven't heard too many of them, and while I got a lot of the cc channels, I didn't get the other supporting channels, so I really got nothing. But I am checking the information here tonight.

It was pretty boring at times, but still interesting too. I even had one system that changed from a MOT system to a LTR system. Now that's weird! Hoping to find some information on it here.

Oh, I also picked up a P25 system on 858.7375. I was on Orange Beach so no telling where it was from. The RRdb doesn't show anything in the AL or FL area for it!

Anyone know whay the OBPD dumped the repeater on 155.415 ? That system worked well and I was able to copy their dispatch center from east of Pensacola, north of Bay Minette, in western Mobile County and on a portable from St. George Island, Florida, about 90 miles away over water.

Also - I've heard increased agency to agency traffic on State Net 155.010 lately. Maybe someone remembered that it is programmed into just about everyone's radios. LOL.
