Default JeffCO Sheriff-What is a Tiger Unit?

Recently when listening to the Center Point division I'll sometimes hear the dispatcher say "All Tiger units go to P-call". My Pro-96 can't monitor P-call(or I-call) and I'm not really interested in it. I just want to know what Tiger Units are and what they do.

Default JeffCo Sheriff Tiger Units

Don't know for sure, but it sounds as if they might be Tactical units - i.e. SWAT - or units that are on a special detail such as narcotic units working a surveillance or undercover buy. I think someone has asked before but don't remember if so or who or their answer.

Tiger units track the devices hidden in money bags from bank robberies. They are very effective. I've actually listened in while they caught robbery suspects using them. The signal strength from repeater sites nearby indicate which area to concentrate in. I've heard them having practice drills on Sunday mornings a lot. Recently, I heard a municipal police department having one of the tracking exercises. Most of what I've heard involved sheriff's department units.

If you are familiar with "fox hunts" that amateur radio operators have, the principle is the same. A hidden transmitter is tracked and pinpointed using directional antennas and signal strenght from the transmitter. The stronger the signal, the closer you are to the transmitter. If you have ever noticed the three antenae in a triangular pattern on a patrol unit, you've seen a tiger unit's vehicle.

Some automobiles have the tracking devices installed so they can be tracked after being stolen. You can read about the LoJack vehicle recovery system here:

LoJack Car Security System for Stolen Vehicle Recovery

Normally information regaring track packs is not given out as public information. Granted, I dont think bad guys visit this site for tips, but who knows? There is some sort of agreement with the media that they will not make this information known on newscast or in the paper, however, an abc3340 reporter Yenu Wadague (or however you spell it) did one time.... I think she caught hell for it too.
Bob, you can pick up the P-Call channel on your pro-96. Im headed to work and can't look up the group but hopefully someone here will help you out. Its a good one to listen to during multi-agency chases.

I was only sharing what I've learned while listening. No inside information.

I would edit or delete the post, but I can't find that option.

If you can look it up for me and post it here or PM it to me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

P-CALL is TG: 22896. There are a few other Police Mutual Aid talkgroups but they are raely used.
PMA-1: 22928, PMA-2: 22960, PMA-3: 22992.
As far as I-CALL that is a private radio-to-radio mode, the PRO-96 can't monitor those unfortunately.
I-CALL is also one of the National 800Mhz Mutual-Aid analog channels. Apparently there is a certain agency who have Officers that either don't know the difference or don't care, lot of interesting comments on there. PL is 156.7

Output Input
I-CALL 866.0125 821.0125
ITAC-1 866.5125 821.5125
ITAC-2 867.0125 822.0125
ITAC-3 867.5125 822.5125
ITAC-4 868.0125 823.0125

Also when rebanded just subtract 15Mhz from each to get the new 1's... 8666.0125 -15 would be 851.0125 etc etc and are renamed 8-call & 8 tac ( 1 , 2 etc
