Default State unit prefixes

I've been hearing Hamilton post (154.920) talking to a lot of units with odd prefixes lately. Today "ABI-xxx" and "HB-xx" units have been stopping people on the corridor, yesterday I heard something like "AR-2022" doing a traffic stop, and about a week ago an "ABC" unit had apparently found a stolen trailer in the woods. I've also heard the ABC units talking to Franklin County 911 on their Sheriff's net.

I'm assuming "ABI" would be the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. As for the HB units, I thought for a while they were saying "HP" as in Highway Patrol, but they seem to be very purposely saying B instead of P. I have no idea what the ABC and AR units could be.

Does anyone know what these units are? Or better yet have a list of all state unit prefixes?

Thanks.

ABI-xxx is Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
ABC is the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board agents.
Don't know about HB units, only ones I am familiar with are the HP units.
AR-xxxx may be the "new" IDs for the Trooper Reserves.

Thanks Steve!

They could very well be HP units, it just sounded like the post operator was saying HB. Am I correct in guessing this stands for Highway Patrol? And if so, what do they do different than regular Troopers?

Also, are there any other interesting units I might hear?

Thanks.

HP-xx units are "generally" people assigned to Headquarters out off Montgomery.
Sometimes a HP unit will be assigned other places. The biggest reason you are hearing the "unusual" unit IDs is this week's detail "Take Back Our Highways". It started Monday and will running through Friday.

Here is the "old" breakdown:
HP = Highway Patrol
ABI = Alabama Bureau of Investigation
SD = Service
DPS = Admin
DL = Driver's License

There has been some changes since I left in 2005 but the "old" breakdown should at least get you started. I am not 100% sure but I believe the DPS aircraft use "Blue Gray-xx" as their "new" IDs.

Not really been busy with Doc appointments and cardio rehab.
