Jefferson / Shelby County

I live on the border of Jefferson / Shelby Counties and frequently travel thoughout the state (mostly to Marengo county) and would like to purchase a scanner. I am completely new to this activity but have spent hours on this forum gathering information. I'm looking at getting a Uniden BC346XT, but am concerned about missing out on anything digitial. From my research in the RR database, I have determined that this scanner should fit the bill perfectly for both Jefferson and Shelby and even the entire state. However when I checked on policescanners.net and entered Jefferson County, it recommends a digital scanner. There's a $200+ difference between what I'm looking at and a digital scanner. Can someone shed some light on what I've found? Am I even looking at the right piece of equipment? Please steer me in the right direction.

Yes Jefferson county as well as City of Birmingham are 800mhz Digital & going 700Mhz soon suposedly by the end of 2009. Check out the RR DB

I have a GRE PSR 500 that would meet your current and near future needs. It works very well for me and I would recommend it to others. Uniden support is not too good in my experience.
