Default AL Statewide question

I'm traveling from Mississippi Gulf Coast to Atlanta soon and I'd like to have AL Highway Patrol in my BCD396. My travel route is I-10 to I-65 and going through Montgomery into Ga.

I've looked at the DB and according to google maps all of the sites listed for AL Statewide EDACS are mostly at the very top of the state with the exception of Mobile and Raubun. What gives with this? Are there not any sites in the middle of the state? I would at least expect one in Montgomery but nothing listed is even close to Montgomery.

Can someone clue me in?

Also are they using the statewide system in a dedicated manner or are they still using VHF? What's the best frequency for me to listen to them while traveling up I-65 from Mobile?

Thanks.

Default Alabama DPS

The Alabama DPS (State Troopers) still use the VHF system throughout most of the state. The frequencies are Ch 1 158.790(B) - 159.030(M), Ch 2 154.920(B) - 155.445(M) and Ch 3 155.505 with a Statewide PD net of 155.010 formerly known as "BACKBONE". The EDACS system is only in use in the Decatur/Huntsville area so far as I know at this time. The Montgomery area does have an 800 MHz system in use and the state may use that system some in the Montgomery County area.

Thanks for the information, I'll put those VHF freqs in my scanner.

When you list (M) are you just giving me the repeater Input? Or is AL using simplex split frequency?

Be sure to add 155.475 in there with the others that are listed above too.

nexus, ALDPS uses the "simplex split frequency" set-up like MHP uses. Bases transmit on either 158.790 or 154.920 and cars transmit on 159.030 or 155.445. 155.505 is used for bases and cars as well as car to car in some areas. Normal car to car traffic is on either 158.790 or 154.920 with some exceptions.
