Scanner Frequencies
Lets start here, I have gotten my first scanner a Radio Shack Pro-94 handheld. I got it used with no manuals, although I have found those online. I am from the Center Point/Birmingham area and would like to start listening to some things around me.
I have checked in the data base and the local stuff around me never has any activity. Does anyone have a list of live channels that I can start to monitor? I would like to hear Police/Fire/ other things also.
Thanks lot and hope to learn more.

Am sorry to say MOSt fire.LE & EMS are all on the apco 25 digital TRS in Birmingham, grab the Pro 197 (base) or the 106 Hand held when they go on sale with th F&F Coupon in the nest 3 weeks or so for $299.00 reg $499.00. The pro 94 will not do digital ,just analog.
goto the RR database at the top of the page & find birmingham/ jefferson county & see what there is to hear

What's an F&F coupon? How do I get one? I'll buy a 106 for $300.

Friends & family coupon , will be out late OCT or first of November goto RS website & sign up for their email Ads every week. It is good for IN store only and most ( maybe all RS Branded products) not just scanners... at least that's the way it's been past 2 years

The 106 and 197 are currently "on sale" for 399.99 till October 31th. As luck has it the store that "does" Radio Shack in Alexander City still does layaways,so I have a second 106 "on layaway". Plus the store has started their "Christmas Layaways", so who knows I might even put a 197 on "Christmas Layaway". That way I will get what I want for Christmas.

If you're in the Center Point area, try 151.16 for Center Point Fire. You might be too far out, but you could also try Trussville FD. I don't remember the freqs. for them, but check the database on this website. Unfortunately, most of the police/fire are digital around Birmingham.

The freqs I have found online are 8 digits. My BC60XLT-1 only accepts 7 digits. Am I missing something? Thanks

No, you can just ignore the last zero. For example, 154.000 is the same as 154.0000 |
