For Huntsville/Madison County, your best bet is to program in the entire list of Trooper frequencies.
Plus, you should put in:
154.875 - Madison County Sheriff Dept
154.385 - Madison County Volunteer Fire Dispatch
462.975 - HEMSI Ambulance Dispatch
If you're "trolling for smokeys" or "Kojacks with Kodaks"....
Keep an eye on, or set alert tones, to the input frequencies listed for the Troopers.
If you hear one, you're too close. However, a trooper does not usually radio in a traffic stop location until AFTER he has already stopped the vehicle and spoken with the driver. Usually, if the trooper's on the radio, they're either writing a ticket or a warning.
Since they operate split-duplex, troopers will talk car-to-car on the output frequency of the repeaters.
Troopers will also use NELE 155.475 as their car-to-car. Especially, when they're writing lengthy reports at accident scenes.
A majority of their communications occurs on Southern LINC, so it has become rare to hear a lot of Trooper radio traffic in Huntsville.
Madison county troopers usually scan the sheriff dept dispatch, and routinely back up deputies on "hot" calls. Also, they are occasionally heard on county fire dispatch. Usually, this is to request the exact location of an accident and they are requesting the best directions or for which way to approach the scene.
Feel free to PM me if you need anything...
Happy scanning,
Rob
