Default New Member Introduction, Decatur, AL

Hey Folks,
Just wanted to drop a quick note to my fellow Alabamians to say hello! A couple of my good friends are members here at RR.com and had recommended I check it out and I appreciate that they did. Seems like this is an excellent resource for all things radio and monitoring related!

I have been a railroad buff since very young and got in to radios when my Dad and I would use CB to communicate. I am dating myself, but we were in to CB back when you actually had a callsign (I think my Dad's was KBIY5825)! Because of lack of funds, it was common for us to homebrew stuff, especially antennas. I was too young to drive so I had a little base station rig to talk to my Dad in the car.

Anyway, not to bore anyone and to make a long story short, I have been in to radios in some form or fashion for many years and look forward to being a useful contributor here on RR.com! I currently run a railroad related live stream from Decatur and am "beta" testing a public safety feed. Hopefully, both will be available here at radioreference.com in the near future!

Looking forward to learning more about the new radio systems and being a member! :-)

Thanks, Folks! It is much appreciated! Howdy goes out to cgriggs and wwhitby, the guys who got me interested in rr.com. Yeah, Corey, I was thinking of hosting both a railroad and a public safety feed over here. I haven't been as active in scanning as I used to be but I always enjoyed it. It is a little easier nowadays with access to the Internet. I used to search for new freqs and write down the info on index cards. I would listen for a long time trying to figure out what I had found - now, I can just pop over to the FCC website and look it up! It's still fun and I always enjoyed homebrewing. I am working on a pair of homebrew antennas now, a 900 MHz ATCS version and a UHF version for public safety stuff.

Look forward to hearing more about the projects you guys are working on!
Thanks again to everyone for the kind reception! :-)

Good to see you on RR. I met you a couple of years ago in Decature at the old station on Labor Day when Ringling Brothers Train came through. I like the CTC monitor. scanbob (Jerry)
