This process has been underway and being discussed for around 3 years now. A process that started well before the EDACS sunsetting announcement and the system has been around many years. It's far from new. The EDACS EOL doesn't render preexisting contracts null and void.
Mobile City on Cnty Radio system.

It's more clear now that someone has merged the threads. My interest in Mobile area radio systems only dates back to last March. That was when my son moved down to Baldwin County and I started visiting. It's unfortunate (for me) that they are going to Pro Voice. The bright side is that Fairhope has gone back to an analog LTR system, at least for now.

At some yet to be determined point in the future the whole shebang will be converted to Harris' P25IP protocol. All sites allready have P25 transmitters up and running, all unused by anyone as of yet.

P25 will eventually be the future in Mobile County but it's going to be several years away.

If a major Hurricane hits Mobile, the public is SOL on the info. That hurts worse than 9/11
