Smile Pro-800

I bought a PSR-800 and it is on the way. I can't wait to get it. I am going through DT's with no audio on my Pro-97 :-)

I am watching vids on youtube and reading, the software seems to be easy to use.

wish me luck

Last I've heard, about the only thing that's not encrypted on the new system is HPD Dispatch and Sheriff Dept. Dispatch. Most car-to-car and Fire is encrypted.

I'd be curious to hear an update from some of the users that are currently monitoring the system, what is in the clear?

Huntsville Police and Fire and the Madison County Sheriff dispatch talkgroups are in the clear.

Most HEMSI talkgroups are in the clear except for the talkgroup they use to talk to hospitals while enroute with a patient.

Madison City Fire and Police dispatch talkgroups and some other talkgroups are in the clear, but I have not yet figured out what the non-dispatch talkgroups are used for or their names.

Madison County Fire is entirely encrypted including dispatch. When they first switched, I heard some intermittent in the clear traffic on some of the normally encrypted talkgroups, but I no longer monitor them so I do not know if that is still happening.

The County-Wide Common talkgroups are sometimes in the clear and sometimes encrypted.

The EMA EOC talkgroup is in the clear.

Default Complete Madison County Talkgroup List

Please help identify the Unknown talkgroups so that we can get the database up to date before the new Uniden scanners start shipping next month. Those scanners, like the Home Patrol and the GRE PSR-800 will have the entire database programmed on a flash memory card.

Okay - I give up. I bought a BCD996XT and the ARC-XT software and can't make sense of it. I'm old school and had no problems with the old analog programming...but this new digital is completely mind boggling to me. Does anyone in the Huntsville area know where I might be able to get it programmed if it is possible? I had bought a PSR-800 from Scanner Master right at the changeover and had them program it, but it didn't seem to work, so back it went. I asked them to program a BCD996XT for me, but they said it wouldn't work. I thought I'd give it a try, but maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

Currently I have two Radio Shack Pro-2052 and because of the conversion, I can only listen to AST and the Limestone County Sherriff's channel. HEMSI still broadcasted their traffic over analog after they went digital, but recently turned the analog off.

As far as why the Madison County Fire went digital, I'm not sure, but may have a small lead. Within the past year I was communicating with Ed Blair of the 911 center while he was working with the new system. One night I heard a county fire unit go on the scene of an emergency and the dispatcher told the responders that the key to the trailer was inside a frog ornament on the porch. Usually, the dispatcher would tell the responders to call the 911 center for that info and/or gate lock combinations. I thought this was a compromise of security and mentioned it to Ed. He agreed and took it to management. Management may have agreed that it was wrong and figured it would be better for those rare times that they have sensitive information to encrypt it all instead. Sorry.

ChuckZ, both the PSR-800 and the BCD996XT are capable of scanning the Madison County system. I can't help you with either because I don't own either (I have a PSR-500) so I don't know anything about them. Maybe someone else will chime in with programming help. If you are a paid member, you can use your software to program the scanner from radioreference.com. After you download the system into your software, delete any workgroups that my list shows as being encrypted and add the workgroups from the list that are not encrypted.

Default Madison County Communications District 700mhz

Chuckz, if you will PM me your email address, I will send you my ARC files for the HSV system.

This will get you started listening to the system.

Rob,

I appreciate the offer, but after further research, I believe I'm gonna try the new Bearcat radios BCD436/536HP. As I've mentioned, I just can't get a handle on this new technology and with the new radios that are similar to the HomePatrol programming, I think I can at least input my zip code and let the radio program itself.

I'll see if Scanner Master will accept my unused BCD996XT as a trade in...if not I'll have to go to plan "B".

30841 - Oakwood College Public Safety (Police)

Luckily, they called out location status and I was able to find that Cunningham Hall is a housing unit at Oakwood College. Thank you Google.
