I need to make one correction... my Kimberly and Morris TG ID's were reversed in this list. It should be:

Great list guys! I have noticed that BHM PD sometimes uses channel numbers
instead of Alpha tags. Is this because of the way their radios display is set up?

What I've heard on the air:
NORTH = CH-1
EAST= CH-2
WEST= CH-3
SOUTH= CH-4
AIRPORT = CH-5
EVENT 1 = CH-6
EVENT 2 = CH-7
EVENT 3 = CH-8
EVENT 4 = CH-9
TOWING = CH-10
TAC-1 = CH-11

west is know 4 and south is 3 thata what i have heard maybe i am backwards, in the old days west was 3 and south was 4

Think you are right. Guess the radios either display both Alpha tags & channel # or
some of the "old timers" like me just have the old plan stuck in their heads!

Boy, those were the days. Irondale has a guy they call Colonel who still uses "good light." Remember when the who city had one TAC channel? Someone would say, "go to 5" and would have to wait for the people on it to finish before they could talk. I love the new system. The day shift North cars are hilarious on the Events channels.

from what i understand before radios they used to use a series of lights i dont know if they were on call boxes or what thats where the term came form i will ask some old timers about the term to be sure

That is the way it WAS, because that is the way the radio system was set up years ago. You see, North and South were one "Central" precinct, and they were Channel 1. Well East became a precinct and they were channel 2. West was 3 and then when North and South were seperated, South became 4.

But, as the new system came on line, and to coincide with the car numbers south was changed to channel 3 and west became 4.
