Hi there,

I've never been to Alaska but I do watch the show about Alaska State Troopers (although apparently even if I lived in Alaska I wouldn't hear much more than they show on TV due to the evil three-letter &*@).

While watching the show I noticed that troopers sometimes begin their transmissions with "MACOM". Does "MACOM" refer a regional dispatch center? Also is there a map/chart of the troop districts/boundaries and associated call signs? For example, what does "1-E 40" refer to?

What they're really saying is "Mat-Com" I believe, as in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley Borough Communications Center. The "1E40" designations it has to do with the region/post a particular Trooper belongs to and their unit/officer and division number, etc. as in patrol, traffic, wildlife and those kind of things.
