Question Yaesu - VX170 Memory Banks

Good day All!

So far I have been able to get "Bank 1" programmed with the
frequencies I want (Local railroad channels - 43 channels). Now I am
trying to program the local repeaters into "Bank 2". But it always
starts out at Channel 44 - and when I set it to channel 1, it also
changes the frequency in "bank 1". Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Steven

Default from a VX6R viewpoint

I had to take a quick minute to review the 170 manual and there are many similarities with the VX6R.

Frequencies are programmed into memory channels. The channels are then assigned to banks. I think it is fair to say that channels 1 to 43 are your railroad channels in bank1. The 44th will be the 1st repeater frequency and will be assigned to bank2. Bank1 and bank2 can be changed to more meaningful name like RROAD and REPEAT. Memory channels can also be assigned to more than one bank.

The following is an example of using a memory channel in more than one bank. My local club has 2m and 70cm repeaters. I have three banks called 2mR, 70cmR and NETARC. The NETARC has all the repeaters for the club; 2mR is only the 2m and so forth. Only one frequency has been entered but attached to different bank labels depending on how I want to scan them.

I hope that helps.

Mike

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks for the info,

I was thinking 200 channels per bank, not 200 channels total. After messing around for a bit, I am on my way to getting it setup the way I want. I guess I will have to break down and get the software, as I will be visiting relatives. It's pretty easy to program, but I don't want to wear out the buttons and the dial.

Thanks Again,

Steven

Default

The programing software for me has been very helpful. It gives me a chance to connect all the dots relative to how the radio uses the data. The only down side is becoming dependent on only programing it that way. I have to work at keeping proficient at manual programing and keep a pocket manual handy too.
