You need an Icom, Kenwood, Motorola public safety type radio, not the FT-60 amatuer radio. The audio from the public safety radios is nearly three times the FT60's so you can hear it on an accident scene.

Sorry,
Bob

You don’t need a commercial radio to have good audio. My FT-50 & 60’s audio is every bit as good as the Motorola HT1250’s I have. In fact the 50 & 60 are the same chassis as their commercial versions. The 50 & 60 are not type accepted for commercial or GMRS use though. You can listen…… just cant talk!

The HT1250 is by far one of the cheapest built radios /\/\ ever sold for public safety. Put one next to a saber and see what real audio is

Did you read his post? He can't hear his agencie's comms, so he might be trying to listen to a new 7.5 khz splinter channel or a narrowband channel. Can the FT50 do this?

Bob

Did you read it Bob? He can hear it. He is comparing signal strengths. Where does he mention 7.5 spacing Bob? Not to mention my responce was to your post telling him he needs a "public safety" radio.

Well, the comments are pointing to what frequency/frequencies are you needing to monitor? Without knowing, an intelligent answer can't be posted. The FT-60 has worked for me as far as conventional frequencies. It might be a combination of squelch and rf squelch settings. How are you programming the radio? These are questions that you need to give answers to for us to help.

I was basing my reply on the fact that few Motorola HT's used in the fire service have an S meter to indicate signal strengths. So I presumed that he was basically talking about audio levels, then the possibility of either wrong freq or bandwith first came to mind. I discounted the fact that all of his fellow workers are using amatuer radios or exports (Motorola GP68?). The FT60 is a good radio for what it is intended for. Maybe the OP will come back with some more info.
