The Clark 450
Just curious here... Does anyone remember the "Clark 450" 'sort-of' scanner from back in the late 60's, early 70's (I think)?
It was a little black box about the size of a cigarette pack with a small steel antenna and an on/off switch. You held it to the back of a portable AM radio and VIOLA, it converted to a 460 Mhz scanner. You just had to tune in the correct frequency for your precinct (not an easy find...) and you were set. Cool early technology.
Many of the cops in Chicago had them so they could get out of the car, wander around, and ooogle babes on the beach. When they heard a call for THEM they could hustle back to the car and use the radio. I wish I'd never tossed mine out when I moved up to 'real' scanners.
They sold them at car shows, CB shops, Warshawski's (now JC Whitney) and who knows where else. I think they were about $10 back then.
