EMT Radio Newb Help!!!
Im an EMT who is having trouble with my fire radio. (And I need it to work). It is a Weierei VEV-3288D.
All of the sudden it has stopped allowing me to enter the frequency mode (where I can manually choose frequency. Which was usually done by holding down enter as i turned it on. I still have the channel mode. It wont let me do a full reset. I can reset the channels (VFO?). But it wont allow me to choose full...
Please help

You cleared this radio with your radio shop, right? No, I doubt it. It's an asian radio which is very probably not legal to import or use in the USA except for ham radio.
What's the FCC ID code on it? Can't find one? It's not legal to use for fire service.
How can I guess this? The FCC does not approve for use in Part 90 (Public Safety) use radios that can be field frequency programmed, almost always.
Take it to your department radio shop to have it programmed. If they don't toss you out of the department for causing them to risk massive fines for use of it, they can program it for you.

No one is mad, but your radio is illegal and its use of your employers system is also.
Sorry the seller did not inform you of these important details in advance.

sounds to me like he wants it to WORK maybe just as a SCANNER!
Just because he wants it to WORK doesnt mean transmit. He said in the above post he wants to listen to keep up with whats going on while he's off duty.
read better.

nobody's mad friend ... they are just stressing the importance of using legal / certified / part 90 radio equipement ... the feds can and will fine you and your department heavily for this stuff ....
if you aren't using it in the field then I would reccomend getting a simple scanner, thats what I did ... but I also understand that being a FF/EMT, using a commercial land mobile radio device is the way to go .... I would consult your departments radio shop, or even your local retailer/distributor for motorola or kenwood LMRs ... way back when, our local retailer would sell us handheld radios and program them (with written approval from our department, which isn't a big deal at all)
hang in there, and for everyone's sake, keep it legal
stay safe!

Try to Reset the Radio, most scanners have a reset, sometimes a pinhole that You put something like a needle or read You Manual to see how to reset,if that is not Your fix-take all batterys out of the Scanner for a hour or more and see if this works allso check the webside for this radio (Weierei VEV-3288D)It would help to know more about this Radio,so if You could, post more about this Radio it could help.

Jump off this dude's sack. Sit down and have a cold one.
Subby wants his brand-X-from-china POS to work ( work like function). Since its not a part 90 approved device, and he said he wants to use it when he's not working (work like on the clock slavin away for the man), no one has the right to jump his Shiat for anything he does while sittin in his living room having a PBR and watchin the game OR for wanting to keep up on the calls and events @ the department that probably involve his buddies..... except not buying something decent.......but different strokes for different folks.
So everyone play nice...........and subby.......go find a good radio; I'd recommend a Motorola HT1000 or Kenwood TK 280/380

If he is just going to monitor when he is not working it shouldn't affect his position at his job.....just a big personal fine. But you should probably try and sell it and buy a scanner....it will save you alot of trouble....

First of all, as others here have already said, it is not a type-accepted radio. I would suggest getting type accepted gear like Kenwood or (horror of horrors) Motorola stuff that is type-accepted for the fire service on UHF. There are plenty of TYPE-ACCEPTED radios out there in the commercial market and all of them are licensable on the any commercial frequency that you shove into them. Check with the local Motorola company sales office. They may be (and the most certainly will be) more expensive, but you won't have to worry about the radio crapping out on you in the middle of a critical event.
My company (two-way radio, inc.) WAYCO Radio: Two-Way Handheld Radio--TwoWayInc.com has them and other company's radios for sale and we will be very glad to program them for you, if you want.
