Smile Help meh!

Hello, everybody. I'm Coby, a ho-hum college student from a ho-hum town, and I need your help. I dunno if this is the place, but it looks like my woes would best fit in here.

I've got a shortwave radio that I love dearly, but it has a problem. Maybe a few of them.

Signs: When powered on, everything seems to be fine. Everything, that is, except the audio; there is none. I'll turn the volume up and up and up and not a crackle is heard. This occurs on all bands/freqs. I've talked with a friend of mine who specialized in radios in the Army (we spoke briefly about it), and he's of the opinion that there's a fault in the radio's audio-out circuitry. I'm compelled to agree with him.

When I tilt the unit side-to-side, there's a skittering sound, much like that a detached component would make when cascading from one end of the radio to the other.

Despite all my searching around, I have found near zero nuggets of information regarding the radio in question. My goal is to find some sort of schematic or service/owner's manual, and I've come up with nothing. I've been looking for years (enter violin...). If my intelligence gathering serves me well, it's a Ross.... Ross. There's a Serial No: 2311.

Attached are crummy pictures for those of you who may recognize it.

The front of the unit, closed: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...yy3775t3-1.jpg

The front of the unit, open: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...s/gjryhfjd.jpg

The rear of the unit, with its label prominently displayed: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ckers/adfs.jpg

A close-up of the label: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...s/noname-2.jpg

Any assistance rendered will be rewarded with a high-five and the satisfaction of a job well done (I'm really good at high-fives).

Thanks!

Coby

Well, the first thing I would do is stop tilting it until I opened it and isnpected (removed) what is rattling around in there.

Second, does it have an earphone jack? If so, does that work? Does it produce audio?

Third (if question two equates to yes and yes), do you own and Ohm Meter? If so, try to test the speaker across the leads to see if it's shorted or open.

Then work backward, into the radio, from there.

Good call, haha.

Yes, it has one; no, it doesn't work.

I don't, but I can obtain one (if my dad's still got his at home).

I should mention that I've opened it once, but I didn't get very far. If I recall correctly, there's a big huge circuit board right in the way of everything small, and I was too chicken to get too deep without a road map, so to speak.

Yea, those can be tough, especially with the mechanics of the string and wheel driven tuning controls. Hopefully it's something simple like a bad earphone jack that has disconnected audio from the speaker too but who knows. Maybe someone can chime in with more experience with that model.

Hi res pics are always helpful too.
