Default Premium Receivers

Curious who else on the forum own and uses premium receivers such as Watkins Johnson, Racal, Harris, Cubic and so on. Post up what you have and what you listen to on them. PIcs would be interesting too.

I used to run a Harris RF-590 and 590A for general SW and utility listening. Then along came the Elecraft K3 HF amateur radio which has possibly the best receiver on the planet at this time. The Harris receivers are long gone and replaced by a K3 and a TenTec Omni VII.

Here is a recent one of my bigger radios. The bottom left radio is the newest group and my favorite RX so far.

Those dual WJ HF's are on my list of wants. Looks like some sweet radios.

One of my local ham buddies has a K3 and says the same thing. If only I hadn't spent my money on a 746PRO a couple years ago....

The cool thing is that you don't have to get the 100 watt version if you're not a ham, you don't need the ATU, you can choose too add the sub-receiver, etc and save some more money by "building" it yourself.

It is a great radio from a great company, maybe not quite as "sexy" as a W-J or Harris though...

I'm running an ITT Mackay 3041A. Modified for an external frequency reference, and locked to a GPS and LORAN disciplined Rubidium oscillator.

I use a rotatable shielded loop for frequencies below about 7 mhz, and an open-wire fed dipole with a tuner for frequencies above.

If you don't have at least a 70 ft tower or 500 feet of wire, then whats the point?

I can go over to the park, lay out 700 feet of wire and hear more on a Palstar R30 !

LOL
