Default Fuse?

Is there a FUSE in the hot wire fuse holder? Do you have a good ground?

Yeah sounds like it most likely needs ignition sense.

Question Paperwork

Uhm, I'd go to the Wiki or someplace and search out the diagram of the plug. Better get things pluged in right or something will get FRIED!!!!

Not sure on your Spectra, but, my Motorola has a Green & Ornange wire that runs the Control Head. The GREEN is constant hot to keep the memory volume and Freq set. The ORANGE is switched with the ignition for ON/OFF purposes so you don't run the battery down when you get out.

BUT, again, that's on MY radio. (I've got a Maratrac with a Spectra head) Better check yours out !!!!

Steve

The Spectra needs 12 volt power on the heavy 2 wire connector on the back of the
radio. It also needs 12 volts applied to both the green and orange wires from the
control head. Some will power up with just applying the 12 volts to the green
wire and some don't. If it doesn't, then press the power button on the head for
a few senconds. It should power up.

Can you post a picture of your control head? I don't want to tell you what to do without first knowing what you have. If not, does the control head look somrthing like this?
