how hard is it to make? it almost looks like a cat 5 cable and plug on the end, if i get the plugs what kind of 5 strand wire do i need? looks easy to make, but i don't know if there is something special about the cable, were a standard cat 5 cable would mess the radio up...

what, you don't want to pay yaesu $60+ for what amounts to a 20 foot phone cord and a piece of stamped metal??

look at the short cable between the control head and the radio...I think it is a typical flat 6 conductor cable with 6 pin modular plugs, but the wires are flipped 180 degrees between them...should be easy enough to make one, you'd just need crimpers that can do 6 pin modular plugs. cat5 is fine, you'll just have two unused conductors.

just make the ends the same as the stock cable and it should work fine. I've been meaning to do the same thing with my 8800.

My mistake, i was thinking of a different radio, it is a straight-through cable, meaning both cable ends are wired the same. I thought one was flipped, but I have it in my hand now and can see they are the same.

Too long since I've had coffee and haven't had a beer yet :D

Edit: I am talking about the 8800, I am not familiar with the 7800.

I've made many of them without problems. Both of my ICOMS and FT-8900's use the 6 conductor wire. You can get the wire, ends, & crimpers on the web or at your local, friend;y, Radio Shack.

I ordered up this bracket in mid-December and received it at the end of February due to it being backordered. It was part number RA054000 for the 7800. I had to contact parts after calling 1-714-827-7600 and give them my information for being a new customer. I had it shipped normal USPS. My total was 3.41 The mount is nothing special but it does make it much cleaning looking. I have mine mounted on the dash in an 01 Prizm.

Here is a picture of the mount:

Hope this helps some of you out. I did not have to make up some reason to get only the mount I just called and said I needed part number RA054000 for a 7800. No questions asked.

Figured it might help a few of you out with this radio.
