Default 1/2 wave 2m HT antenna?

I see a bunch of 5/8 wave antennas, but they require a groundplane for optimal performance, which you can't get with an HT.

I wanted to get a 1/2 wave, as it's less dependent on a groundplane.

The only ones I found were telescopic, and I want a flexible whip...

Anyone know of one?

I am putting my radio on my vest, and will be making a short lead to be able to mount it just below the shoulder.

It's not exactly what you are wanting, but it is a 1/2 wave. Just add a 'rat's tail' a 1/4 wave long to that HT with a 1/4 wave 'ducky' (a real one 19" or so long, not a loaded 'duck'). You'd then have a center fed 1/2 wave antenna. End fed 1/2 wave antennas require an impedance matching device to be usable. I don't know of any specifically made for HTs (but I don't know of a lot of things).
Good luck.

(My HT has the battery 'snapped' on the back. There's enough room that a bare wire between the battery and the metal chassis of the radio holds it in there, and makes contact just fine. It do make a noticeable difference.)

I use a MFJ-1714 telescopic antenna. It works very well.

That 'fire pit' was a place we used to go to practice when I worked for a living. Most of the time is was fun. Sometimes scary as hell, but mostly fun. Till it can to clean up time, then it wasn't fun anymore. Oh well.
There really is a lot I don't know. I don't know how to knit, or crotchet, small internal combustion engines hate me, and I don't understand women at all (except for chocolate, I know that part!). I'll also have you know right now that I do not lie. I might stretch things to make'em sound better, but that ain't lying. That's about as normal as it get's ain't it?

Normal yea i guess. understanding a women if you did this you would be the master of the universe. but getting back to my op there are certain people in here i pay attention to because i can tell you they know what there talking about. i have been in radio cb's for many years and made a pretty good bit of money doing it. as far as engines i am a auto tech retired. i specialized in computer fuel management you know the hideous service engine soon light? this is what i did along everything else. i never call anyone a lair to me it's like a slap in the face i was just referring you saying you don't know a lot of things. okay you have a good one i am going to build a fire is my man cave and work on some things.
