TH-D72A to ISS

I want to send a packet to the ISS. I am very new to APRS so I need help with it. I do have my72A setup doing beacons and I show up on APRS.fi. I do see messages from others as well. Is there any setup in particular to make it to the ISS? I can post my current setup if need be.

My suggestion to you is join the Yahoo group for the Kenwood TH-D72, it is very informative and you should find the answer you are looking for.

I am a member of the group and they have helped me out when I was looking for info regarding my THD72 as well.

I'm unable to answer you directly because I have never done APRS via the ISS, so any information I give you might be incorrect.

The ISS is on a different freq than the main APRS network (North America is 144.39, the ISS is on 145.825).

You'll have to know when the ISS will be over your head. Google search "ISS track" to find any of a number of sites which will do this for you.

You may have to update your PATH. The information on the web is confusing and conflicting. I only ever connected once, over a year ago, and I don't recall if I changed my path or not. If you Google search "ISS APRS", you will find several pages with different paths that you can try (that's what I mean about it being conflicting).

If the callsign hasn't changed since I made my beacon, you will be looking for RS0ISS-4. Good luck!

I thought I had seen things about different paths a couple of times. I will check it out and see what else I can find. I do have a sat tracker on my phone.. just a matter of figuring out settings. Thanks!

If set up properly you should be able to get into the ISS with no issues. I have done with my VX8GR with just the rubber duck on the roof of a pretty tall building. If you are going to try it with the rubber then position the radio horizontal I have had good luck with that. I also banged into the thing from my car just using a mag mount. Its pretty cool feeling when you come up on the station list of the ISS when it gets uploaded to the internet. My friend and I have also sent each other aprs messages across the ISS.
