Default APRS digi's and path settings.

This is more of a question is to why I see stations come up on my station list on my HT that are not local? Why do some stations feel the need to tie up bandwidth? The other night a station popped up on my list and they were over 95 miles south of me. When I looked at that station's info it gave which digi picked him up an also so Wide 2.

Why do some people feel the need to have so many hops? APRS in my area is pretty active and having stations with insane path settings is not helping. I only want to see stations that are local to me not someone that is mobile almost 100 miles away.

In Alberta we recommend no more than 2 hops. Even with 2 hops I can see stations from 300+Km way, with a band opening I can double that range. We are also lucky to have an access to such a large number of sites we have been able to cherry pick the sites that allow us to maximize coverage with minimal overlap. When there is a band opening, I can see APRS activity in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. So to see activity from 100m should not be that difficult even with a 2 hop path.
