Default Questions about using Digital Master 780 and how to auto-log

I’m new to amateur radio and studying for my tech license so right now I'm a SWL.

Recently, I set up my transceiver with a SignaLink USB to observe BPSK-31 data using DM780 (ver. 5.24.0.38 Build 3474) with Windows XP. So far, I’ve got everything up and running and I’m able to see exchanges of text between hams, but I have two questions.

In the upper right area of the DM780 screen, there is a save icon to save received text. When I click that, I get a Save Output menu. The default for the file save is: DMOutput.RTF. The path to the saved file is:

Local Disk (C) / Documents and Settings / Application Data / New User / Simon Brown, HB9DRV / Digital Master 780

I cannot find the saved file. When I follow the path, using Explorer, and get to New User, there is no Application Data. I tried Search for DMOutput.RTF, but nothing is found. The only work-around I found is to manually set up the path to save the file or click the viewer Icon (next to Save) and then once it opens (in Word), I can save it anywhere. I don’t have files hidden but I’m stumped.

Another question is about Logging. Since I don’t have a call sign, is that why I can’t configure the HDR Logbook? When I click “Connect”, nothing happens and still shows: Not connected. Even though I am not transmitting anything, I would like to log other ham’s call signs and such. I can do it manually (copy and pasting) but isn’t there an automated way?

Thanks for any and all help!

Moved to our Amateur Radio Digital forum where you're more likely to get an answer, since DM780 is ham software...Mike
