Default Alinco 144 MHz Internal TNC Problem

Hi,

The Alinco internal TNC I installed wont talk to my XP or Vista.

The digital symbol went out on the radio a few times so I think there was some sort of communications between the computer (XP) that was not visible to me.

I tried it on the Vista and it went for the same port as it did on the XP.

The Vista made that sound it make when it senses something new.

Any ideas?

Best Regards
Sincerely,
Ted

IIf you have it into an adaptor and plugged into a usb port it won't work, it has to be plugged into a rs232 connection..also make sure it is seated right and all your ribbon cable is set into the packet board, I had same problem when I put my board into the radio, I took out the ribbon cable and replugged in but it didn't help until someone on a forum told me it wont work with the adaptors , has to be into rs232 connection..

Do the laptops have PCMCIA slots? I have a PCMCIA to serial card that worked better than any USB crap. The cards are still available on eBay.

Hi,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I do not know what U want me to look for..

Could U be more specific on what I need to find on my computer to determine if your suggestion will work.

I do not know anything about adapters (usb,DS9 and rs 232).

Best Regards

Hi,

I looked at the XP and Vista and they have a slot about 5 mm high and 2.5 inches long.

From what I read it sounds like that might be it.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

I have sent an email to the person who set up my P-25 VHF/UHF and 900 MHz radios and asked if he knows someone with experience in this.

The msg I seem to be getting is this is a computer interface problem.

Again thanks for getting back to me.

Best Regards
Sincerely,
Ted

If you look at the model number of the laptops on their respective manufacturer websites it should tell you if they support PCMCIA..

Hi,

I went to the web site and typed the computer name into their web site
(Satellite L305D-S5934) and did not see it mentioned.
This computer was bought in March 08 and the site for it might not be up to date.

The slot I told U about earlier I believe are expansion slots. If I understood what they were saying.

I guess this will be a bit of an adventure.

Tomarrow is Monday and companies will be open including Alinco so I hope to get more information then.

IM know IM not the only one having problems from people I have talked too.

Thanks for your help.

Your on the right track call ALINCO, also on YAHOO GROUPS there is an ALINCO group I belong to, you could ask there. The only reason I have a rs232 port is I look for cheapo computers for ham digital..GOODWILL or a pawn shop....$25 dollar specials.
OK look for your comments from ALINCO...
