Question IC-V8000 vs. IC-2200H

What are the main differences between the v8000 and the 2200h model radios other than Tx pwr? If you were selling me one of those radios, which would you push for me to buy??

Thanks,
Kenny

Both seem to be great radios, I have 2 of the 2200H's myself. If you will do a little research on the 2200H about D-STAR you'll find something that it will do that the 8000 will not do. While D-STAR does cost more there are a lot of cool and fun things that can be done but I'll leave the research and choice of radio up to you.

Are you a HAM by the way?

Good deal, D-STAR is a lot of fun. You'll find some D-STAR "nay-sayers" but then again all modes may not interest all. I got into D-STAR just about 2 weeks after getting my "call" back in 2006 and it just keeps getting better and better.

And there are several D-STAR repeaters here in Alabama...

Congratulations, you'll have a lot of fun with that too. And if you decide to go with D-STAR it'll be even better!

I also have an ICOM ID-800 (D-STAR ready) and ICOM V-82 w/D-STAR chip (UT-118).

I purchased a IC 2200 about 2 months ago. I love this radio. It replaced a very old and still working Kenwood 221A. In my research, I thought the better radio was the 2200. Both are good radios, but the V8000 had more negative comments when you go to Eham reviews. The 2200 is one solid radio. Welcome to Ham Radio. Trace 1 must have been in SAC a few years back.

I have a V-8000 in the mobile. I really like it. I have a friends with both V-8000 and 2200. They both sound great on the air and have that great ICOM audio. I'd get the V-8000 again if it was me. I've had mine for 2 and a half years and I like it. You won't go wrong either way.

Greetings fellow SP.

I had the wonderful pleasure of working in the great missile fields on the barren plains of western South Dakota.

Worked A/C Security, Base Police, Missiles Security, Confinement, and Pass and ID. Was in the original Group of SAFESIDE in 1968 in Vietnam. Fine business on the D-star. I have been looking into that myself. Recently retired here and not a lot of time for hamming. The IC 2200 just keeps getting rave reviews from the locals here in Fort Walton Beach.

Are there other differences between the two? I'm also debating between the V8000 and the 2200H

I have the v8000. The thing is built like a tank, although the 2200H looks like no slouch either, from the pictures.

The V8000 does have a front-firing speaker which makes for clear, punchy audio.
