Default Jetstream JT220M - 99 channels?!

Just saw the ad for the new JT220M mobile:

Jetstream

It's FM only and it has 99 channels.

99 channels?! Am I missing something? Who in the heck would need 99 channels for 220?

Stop complaining. At least someone is still manufacturing new 220 radios and 99 is better
than not having enough.

Also - your a bit late on this rig subject matter as there is already another thread on it.

220 radio

Question

It could be that figure is preprogammed into the eprom and worked ok with the design, who knows? But there are areas of the country which 220mhz. is pretty popular, maybe that's why? We have only one rptr. for that band here, but I'm glad.

Sure, I get that - no extra cost for some overkill. I just can't see using even 25 channels for 220, no matter where you are (which I'm sure someone will show me wrong!)

Just struck me as funny, that's all.

Still? That and the linked 442.225, but there doesn't seem to be too many beyond that.

I can not speak for most of the country but in the major metropoliten areas around here(SNJ-NNJ) there are NO repeater pairs left for the amateur coordinators to allocate.
