Default Microphone extension cable

I am in need of a new microphone extension cable after my last one really got chewed up pretty bad by my dog. Now I know why he was sitting nicely and not jumping around. Can I just use a new Cat 5 cable or what should I use. By the way it is for a Kenwood TM-D700A and I just can't bring myself to order the DFK-7 kit.
