Default FT-270 Bank Issue

Does anyone have any experience with the Yaesu FT-270 that replaced the Yaesu VX-170? Specifically does the FT-270 not scan multiple banks like the VX-170 did? If so what combination of keys do you push to activate the bank scanning? Although the manual says you can, my radio does not even though I have precisely followed the manuals steps.

Thanks

It appears that the FT-270 can only scan one bank at once. You can configure up to 10 banks. There is no indication of how many channels you can have in a bank. A channel may be assigned to more than one bank. This is all described on page 33 of my paper operating manual.

Thank you Mark. Being able only scan one bank at a time is indeed the behavior of my radio. What a disappointment that is. It makes no sense to me why Yaesu took the multiple bank feature away that existed in the VX-170. Guess I will return the radio and get my money back.

I have never used a VX-170. I looked at my PDF copy of the VX-170 Operating Manual and it appears that the VX-170 can only scan one bank at once (page 33 of the PDF manual). The bank features appear to be virtually identical between the to radio models.

Hi Mark -

I still have the VX-170 and it can scan multiple banks at once. For instance it can scan Bank 1, 3,6,7 9 or any combination of the 10 banks. It goes through each bank and shows which bank it is scanning on the display.

Strangely enough the instructions for setting up the bank scanning are identical in the VX-170 and FT-270 manuals - press MR Key- Press and hold VFO key - select which banks by press F key and when done hold down the MR key and you will see MBLSCAN in the display. Everything works the same for programming both radios EXCEPT on the FT-270 when you finish and press the MR key, nothing happens and the radio does not show MBLSCAN and does not scan multiple banks. I don't know if the radio is defective or as you say the FT-270 does not scan multiple banks at the same time. The VX-170 definetly does.

Thumbs up

Page 40 of the VX270 manual. It describes how to do the memory bank linking. Just like the VX170. )

Problem is it does not work. Took the radio back and got a new one and it does not work as described on page 40 or any other page. Either Yaesu has a eprom issue or they need to amend the manual. If you got it to scan multiple banks at once I would be appreciative if you tell me you can and what steps you followed.

Thanks,

John

Update on FT-270 Bank Issue

Took the original radio back and got a new one. Same problem

Called Yaesu Tech Support and they said they had no clue and don't have a radio at their disposal to test

Called RT Systems who said it was a software issue. They posted a patch for the software and it still will not scan multiple banks.

It appears Yaesu has an eprom issue with this radio or the manual is totaly wrong. I have had the VX-170 for over a year and I know how to program it. The FT-270 manual is idential in programming the bank scanning and it clearly does not work as outlined in the manual.
