It's also possible that your cable is not fitting into the radio jack correctly. I had the same problem. I wasn't able to read my radio but I could read my buddy's radio just fine. What we discovered is that the side molding of my cable connector was being blocked by the frame well for the dust cover. Therefore the plugs were not pushing into the jack all they way to allow a proper data connection. We had to trim down some of the plastic from the side of the connector plug to allow it to push down all the way into the jack. Details about this are on the Miklor site. It appears that the fit & finish of these radios is not exact from one to another. So you might have the same situation. Remember, this is a $50 radio. There are toys for kids that cost more than this. So I have to keep reminding myself not to expect what I'd see on any of the big three, or even Motorola. Just gotta go with it.
