Question Kenwood TH-G71A Software Programming

Hello All,

Has anyone successfully programmed their h/t using the software? I've invested several hours trying to get the software to work, but it's been without success.

I bought the cable from EBAY. Downloaded the software from Kenwood. Typed in all the repeaters, pl tones, etc.

Went to "menu 15" turned it "on". It will not transfer the frequencies to the h/t. I keep getting "COM port is invalid. Please check and try again." I tried COM 2 and got the same error message.

There are only two Com ports available!!

Any ideas?

Alan

What kind of cable USB or DB9. If it is a USB cable you need a driver for most of them.

Question

Hi Al,

Yes, the wire is a USB and it did come with a "mini cd" for the driver. I did install the driver into the laptop, but it still will not upload the freq's into the h.t.

I think you hit a software limitation that radio went out of production when USB was coming out. It is looking to use the serial ports. The software probably was not updated by KW to accept usb devices. Hopefully someone who knows more than I do can help.

I used to own a G71 but sold it, so I can't check this out myself...

Mnny Kenwood HT's use the earphone port for the PC connection as well, and there is a menu selection that has to be set in order to select the appropriate input. Is the G71 one of these perhaps? I don't remember.

One other point.... when installing USB-serial converter cables, windows will often select a com port other than 1 or 2. (mine uses comm 6).
