Default Ampartment antenna help

I live in the basement of an apartment, but I'm not underground and have problems with break ups on 800mhz with the Hamilton County/Cincinnati P25 system. I'm using the radio shack 800mhz rubber ducky on my GRE500. I get better reception when I'm out and about in my truck. Thanks for the help. Andrew

Just about anything will be better than the rubber ducky, even a 1/4 wave. Radio Shack sells several antennas that should work fine for you.

I'd make a 1/4 wave ground plane, and hang it from the ceiling, or park it high in a window, that'll probably make a world of difference.

I know one guy who lives in the basement but runs coax out and up to a higher window to a glass mount antenna. He claims it does ok.
Just an idea for you?
