Well if you have a tool box behind the cab that's a good spot for an all-band scanner antenna which can be had at radio shack for about $30+tax or you could put it on the roof which would be my first choice.

I have a larsen nmo 150/450/800 antenna that does real well on most bands and runs about $30. It's about 21" tall or so, you can use it with a mag mount or drill a hole. The austin spectra is a great antenna especially for the lower bands, it also does ok if you have anything down in the 42-44 mhz area. It uses an nmo style mount, is about 33" tall and will run somewhere close to $100.

I have both and they both do very well, the taller spectra does better on the lower bands and they're about = on the 800 band. The shorter larsen doesn't do very well down in the 40's.
