Default Specific RR HH antenna questions

Had a couple of questions. I mainly use two handhelds for RR monitoring a Pro96, and 346XT. I currently use the Diamond RH77CA on my 346, and a Maldol W100RX (telescoping) on the 96.

Are there any other HH antennas that really shine in the RR bands, or upper end of VHF-high(160-174)?
The two I use are GREAT, but was hoping for a little more distance for some spine-lines I listen to. I know I could go to a base scanner, and put up an outdoor antenna, but really just wanted to make sure there were not any HH ones I might try, or may have missed.

Mods. if this is more RR forum specific, I apologize, just wasnt sure which forum to post it in. Thanks for any help, Mike

Default Specific RR HH antenna questions

Mike, it's interesting that the PRO96 has a BNC connector while the346XLT uses an SMA connector for their antennas, nonetheless, check the extensive WIKI section under portable antennas & you should find the solution to your dilemma, if all else fails I would reccommend the Austin Condor, at least for the PRO96. happy hunting.

Try a Smiley antenna. You select the frequency that the antenna resonates at and the type of connector you want.

FLRAILMAN, Thank you for the link and information, I have looked at the Condor for YEARS. It is on my short list to try. Regarding the 346, and 96 you are right one is SMA, the other BNC, I have adaptors for both of them so they can convert either way. Not sure, but maybe I lose a little signal when doing that.

DDan, thanks for the link to Smiley. I have heard lots of good things about them also. I will check them out!

Mike

You could, of course, put up an outdoor antenna and use it with your present scanners. No need to go to a base scanner.
