RS discone antenna

The radials on the Rs discone are hollow and break off easily if it happens to tip over during assembly. It happened to me Are the other discones on the market made of the same hollow metal? I'm looking to buy another discone.

Most folks like the Diamond DJ-130 discone.

Ditto. The Diamond is far and away better than the Rat Shack discone. Of course it costs more too...

The diamond discone is a well-constructed antenna. If you'll be scanning 800 MHz+, you may want to get the version with the N connector, though.
