I stand by what I have said on here and Facebook and have freely said that I am one of the beta testers..
One has to ask, do you have the correct scanner for your needs, if it is digital that you require (DMR) there are alternatives, I own three other digital scanners and the DV1 would not be my first choice to use portable..

I suppose it is horses for courses, Espyonard meets my requirements to enhance the use of the DV1..
I don't know how long you have been using the program, but when I first started using the program it's main purpose was to control the DV1 via a PC, since then it has developed in all directions and has the characteristics of a Swiss Army Knife..

Default More news - v.6.0007-006b

I was asked by a Customer if it would be possible to transfer blocks of frequencies from a 'Q-DB' text file to an AR-DV1 Memory Bank as a single operation.

I must confess I was not sure, but realised it would 'Square The Circle' re 'Q', and since 'Q' itself started out as an impossible dream, I did my best.

I have a fully working 'BETA' already, which effectively means with 'Q' you will also be able to quickly import frequencies from many sources to a 'Q-DB' file, view and scan them as now, but additionally if you want, transfer them to the Radio's Memory Banks should you wish or need to.

I many cases the function will be automatic, in some a small amount of User inter-action may be necessary, but much faster and easier than entering them manually to the Radio alone, or other methods involving typing into Spreadsheets, and then uploading them 'blind'. (not 'knocking' that method at all, it has its uses)

The new version (006B) is back to the stage of in depth testing before general release, but I will keep people informed.

SO WATCH THIS SPACE - if you do not know what 'Q' can do already as yet, then you are missing something very interesting. Download the free Trial from www.espyonard.com and read the (accursed) Manual if nothing else. Even if you do not have an AR-DV1 yet it is worth installing the program and reading all about the program, especially 'Q'.

(Some people might and probably will say it is just another example of how unprofessional I must be, spending several more 16 hours days adding something for a program that requires a Manual, but I will just have to risk that. I am impressed how so many of eSPYonARD's 'virtues' can be dismissed as 'vices' though, in other threads, and a program's lack of many functions indicates superiority over one that has so many. Just mentioning it, as I still refuse to play that sort of game, lol.)

Well the author of eSPYonARD has been working very hard with me to help with a suggestion i made about adding memories to the AOR DV1 in bulk (one bank at a time). I must say i am pleased i bought this software because as i have seen in the testing of this new feature that eSPYonARD is quickly becoming a swiss army knife type of program whereby every user type is catered for.You will always get first class support from the author aswell as i have. I think personally that this software is leaps and bounds above the rest especially when you have to boot, an author who is willing to, and if possible will act on your suggestions within a day or two.

Default Progress report

In case anyone is interested in current progress regarding the next update, here is a bit of news.

I am tweaking things at the moment, especially regarding the bulk transfer of 'Q-DB' files to a Memory Bank

One of 'Q''s features is the ability to leave the Radio running during a Search and it creates an intelligent 'Q' List of all the frequencies that are active, time and date stamped, which is saved automatically.

The list is 'intelligent' because it does not create a new line if the same frequency 'opens' again, just updates the date and time. In effect you know exactly what frequencies are active where you are, but you do not have the inconvenience of many 'repeated' entries being added each time the squelch opens.

Of course as with all 'Q' lists they are inter-active i.e. clicking on a frequency line transfers the Frequency and Mode to the AR-DV1.

Today's tweak means the program will automatically distinguish if the list displayed is one obtained from either an automatic 'Q-SEARCH', or the other useful list that is created just by right clicking the VFOA button whenever an interesting frequency is discovered.

Up till now the lists have solely been stored in text files on the P.C., which is of course very convenient for many reasons, but now the program can transfer the entire contents of either of the above lists to a selected Memory Bank in one operation.

That operation is entirely automatic. No User intervention is ever required because the lists created by the above are already in the exact format required. Just a few mouse clicks are necessary.

I still want to do a few days thorough testing, but 6.0007-006B should be available at the Web Site within a few days.

AND the answer to he question is:- "No, I don't have time to sleep, too busy with eSPYonARD", lol.

Default v.60007-006B

I have just uploaded '006B' to www.espyonard.com.

I realise there have been three updates in fairly quick succession, but they were created because Users contacted me with good ideas, that were worth the effort of including, and expanding upon.

Perhaps the most significant is the ability to transfer an entire 'Q-DB' frequency list to an AR-DV1 Memory Bank automatically.

Many hours of testing, and even more creating the new functions and improvements.

As usual, if anyone experiences any technical issues or has ideas for future functions, please contact me, but do not post here.

I rarely reply to technical queries on Forums, it just clogs them up.

There are two icons at the Web Page that enable anyone to contact me by email. You can always expect quick replies and assistance.

For any new readers, the Trial program can be downloaded from the Site. It is free and available for as long as you wish to try it, however there are some limitations applied.

Still worth mentioning that if you do not know what a 'Q-DB' list is, then you are unaware of 'Q' and its revolutionary functions, only available for the AR-DV1, with eSPYonARD.

The Trial can be activated with a Code, so nobody has to download the program again.

New and existing users should read the new additions to the Manual. They explain the new functions in full, and I always recommend looking at the 'Changes Log' at the end of the Manual.

No apologies for providing a Manual, lol. Any program that claims it does need one is very unlikely to be the sophisticated software that a dedicated AR-DV1 owner should demand.

Enjoy..........

Default Whoops I forgot to add something

I have added a small square button, top left of the main window in 006C.

Clicking it will give you the option of going straight to www.espyonard.com so that you can quickly check for updates.

Just a small addition I know, but hopefully useful.

Default Another youtube video

Thanks to everyone who have emailed me saying the liked the new videos.

Someone sensibly pointed out that they did not show 'Q' dealing with a complicated list, sorting it and having all the frequencies available for use with the AR-DV1, for transfer as single frequencies, or scanning them all in an amazing time.

So I have made one more. This time taking a more advanced list of just over 400 frequencies, obtained from a Web Page.

All of them sorted and ready for the Radio in about a minute.

So here it is. Just a short video, but it really shows the power of just ONE of the many 'Q' functions in action and demonstrates just how unique it is at fast acquisition and management of frequencies from many sources.

I assure you it is worth looking at. Look at the format of the original list I copied and pasted into Notepad.

Watch eSPYonARD sort it, and compare the result. Look at the program send a frequency to the AR-DV1 with a single mouse click, or scan the entire list, complete with descriptions.

Just how fast could you have done it manually, or with another program?

Of course the major thing is all the frequencies are automatically stored on your P.C., Laptop or Windows Tablet as a small text file, for access again and again, as you wish.

Over 400 frequencies would have taken up almost 10 standard AR-DV1 Memory Banks.

The 'Q-DB' file is just 21 KB in size. Just try to imagine how many frequency files you can have available for instant use by the AR-DV1, with no restrictions on the number of entries, or their descriptions.

That effectively means virtually unlimited 'Q Memory Banks', all of which, as simple text files, can be quickly edited, modified, created or backed up.

'Q' frees up the Radio's Memory Banks for special use.

I am fairly sure there are those out there who doubted the claims made for 'Q' and frequency acquisition. I do not blame you, I would feel the same way.

Please remember 'Q' is just one tool at your disposal. eSPYonARD has many more, whilst controlling the AR-DV1's own functions.

So, just to prove it works:-

https://youtu.be/hA6ANGgWZ-o

Of course, if you have not done so yet, download and try the latest version for yourself from
www.espyonard.com

After all the Trial is free.

Default Scan Frequency diferent Code

I am very happy with eSPYonAR, it would be possible with the Q code to be able to scan different Frequency mode (Nxdn) with different Scrambler Code.
Thank you.

Default V.6.0007-006D - new

Many thanks for the above.

Whilst making the You-Tube videos I hit the software writers dilemma, lol.

One of the hardest things to get right is 'testing', not so much for making sure what should happen, does happen, but trying to juggle the unknown, when somebody clicks buttons in a different order than expected for example.

One of the most complex things the program can do is scaling the window sizes. Looks simple, and it is to operate, just right-click the Tuning Knob and the sizes increase.

The actual programming is without a shadow of doubt horrendously complicated. A multitude of different parameters change, each one having possible 'knock on' effects in unexpected places.

Back to the YouTube videos. I found that there were small problems with 'Q' window sizing. The left and bottom sliders sometimes decided to disappear in particular, depending often on the order of button clicks.

The 'Q' functions are so revolutionary, and now that they are available to see 'in action' I of course wanted to correct that, so '006D' has arrived.

If there are still people out there who think 'revolutionary' and 'unique' are BIG words, then I reckon you have not tried 'Q', or not believed the claims about it makes are remotely possible, despite the User comments, lol.

For those of you who invested in the 'other' software, so avoid looking at eSPYonARD, I totally sympathise. Not that there is anything I would ever say against other programs, indeed BUTEL make excellent software, but eSPYonARD has functions no others have, and really does take the AR-DV1 to a new dimension.

Well 'seeing' and 'hearing' is as easy as watching the YouTube videos, or indeed downloading the Trail program.

No apologies for another update to eSPYonARD, or the fact that it is the OLDEST program that offered full P.C. control.... and for sometime has had the simplest, and fastest methods of frequency acquisition, storage and management in existence.

It may be the 'oldest program, but the regular updates mean it is then once again re-born as the 'NEWEST'.... hope you enjoy

Thank you.
As you probably know AOR recommend that one does not 'mix' analogue and digital modes when Scanning. Even using its own firmware the Radio is slowed down when interpreting Digital Modes.

It would probably be possible in 'Q', but all the added processing involved would slow things down so much it would be impracticable. Every command sent by the program requires a lot of checking by the Radio, and the Program for it to execute, and on top of that there is the processing involved in keeping the programs display up to date.

In order to add extra functions the AR-DV1 cannot do on its own, 'Q' has to do everything via software, which means a large amount of processing has to be employed, all of which takes time. Although that means 'Q' expands the use of the AR-DV1 in so many ways, that factor has to be taken into consideration, especially for Digital signals.

One of the reasons I came up with the idea of 'Q' was to free up the AR-DV1's limited number of memories so they could be used for Digital Modes, whilst 'Q' added unlimited frequencies and 'Q-Memory Banks', for Analogue use mainly, plus of course unique frequency acquisition abilities, and other things.

eSPYonARD lets you set up AR-DV1 memory channels, and incorporate those things the firmware permits of course, but it is best to use the Radio's Memory Channels for more complicated Digital frequencies.

Have you had any success with the AR-DV1's built-in de-scrambling functions? I have had none here.

Default In reply to what is coming next

No doubt due to the latest YouTube video above, demonstrating a new 'Q' feature in the new '007' update (not yet released), a lot of people have emailed me asking for details of what the new update will contain.

So here is the draft Changes Log.

As usual, please direct any questions to me by email via www.espyonard.com rather than here on this thread

Looks a lot I know, but really simple to use, and just involves a few mouse clicks to operate.

v. 6.0007-007 CHANGES LOG ENTRY
1. Added an AUDIO SAMPLE function to 'Q-SCAN' and 'Q-AUTO SEARCH'.

If AUDIO is selected, in addition to the normal lists 'Q' creates, the SEARCH and SCAN logs available via PRO-TOOLS now include selectable 'audio samples' that can be played back via the Radio, and are recorded to the AR-DV1's SD Card.

The entries appear in the normal PRO-TOOLS log format, i.e. Audio File number (double clicking plays the audio sample), Frequency, Time / Date, 'S' meter reading, PLUS the length of time of the Audio recording.

This will work when scanning a 'Q-DB' file, or during a 'Q' Auto Search, and provides very useful information about frequencies in your local area, not only 'when' they are 'active' but also an audio sample of what they contained.

The standard 'Q' file produced by its Auto Search function is 'intelligent', in that if the same frequency goes 'live' more than once, only its Time / Date stamp is changed. The 'Q' list in PRO-TOOLS will create an individual entry each time a frequency becomes active, with audio.

The length of an audio sample can be defined by moving the 'Q' slider in the DELAY window, from 1 to 120 seconds. If '0' is selected, when the 'Q' Search or Scan stops on an open frequency the recording continues until the Squelch closes.

2. *****SEARCH BANK AND MEMORY BANK NAME COLLECTION FROM SD CARD*****
As from this update, when the program starts it checks for the time and date it was last used.

If that information is not found (i.e. the first run of '007') it automatically downloads the BANK tags from the SD CARD, and saves them so they are available, as shown on screen.

Every time the program closes it now saves the date of LAST USE, and displays it during start-up, inviting the User to update the BANK tags if any changes may have been made either MANUALLY or by another program, in which case eSPYonARD would not be aware of them.

3. VOICE SQUELCH is not compatible and is automatically deactivated during 'Q' operations.

4. ADDED 'CLOSE' BUTTON TO PRO-TOOLS
In the light of the unlikely event of an SD Card becoming corrupted during use, which could cause the code that discovers the last WAV file to freeze. The CLOSE button stops the function and re-opens the other windows.

DURING THIS OPERATION ALL OTHER eSPYonARD WINDOWS ARE NOT VISIBLE, but re-appear when the last WAV file number has been discovered.

5. AMENDED START-UP SCREEN FUNCTIONS
If 'YES' is selected when asked if changes have (or may) have been made to the information held on the SD Card regarding Search / Scan Bank Tags, OR to any WAV files, the program will download and store the information.

In the case of the BANK Tags, this does provide the User with valuable details every time a Bank is displayed. Without this only a Bank number would have appeared in any relevant list.

If the User changes any BANK information within eSPYonARD those details are automatically stored for future use.

If 'YES' is selected during start-up, the last WAV file information is also obtained, and the User will not be asked to do this again during that Session, however as before, if for some reason the numbers do become out of 'sync', right clicking the 'AUDIO' button in Pro-Tools will allow the USER to re-sync the data.

If 'NO' is selected, the first time AUDIO is selected in PRO-TOOLS the option to 'sync' with the SD Card appears.

6. AMENDED SHUT DOWN FUNCTION
Right-clicking the 'CLOSE' button will save User Data and Preferences before closing the program AND the AR-DV1 will power down.
