Ar1500

What would be the best use for an AR1500? How well does it do in Milair or say railroad monitoring? I may have a chance at getting one but I have never used anything but RS and Uniden scanners.What would a fair price be for a used excellent condition 1500? Thanks for any info and recommendations.
