Smile Aor 8200MK3- Just purchased

I just got a AOR 8200 MK3 with programming cable, antenna, battery charger and car charger for $300. It's been a while since I had one. It just seemed like too good a deal to pass up

Yeah, but I got my 106 for that! I had originally sold an aor mk2, but regretted it after I sold it. I saw this deal and thought to myself that it was time to get another one.

Great deal
once hook on a radio with control of all settings and wide coverage, its hard to give it up, Got rid of all mine a few years back. I had to get another one also. the AR8600, had aor put in the p 25 board, wasted my money on that, I have to have almost a full signal to decode 800mhz P 25. I am also useing a gre scanner for digital.
wish AOR would keep up with the trunking & digital changes.

I agree. My thought is that AOR does not consider their receivers as scanners therefore they don't feel the need to addP25 or other features that the other scanners have.

Their radios are generally developed for the Japanese and European markets so APCO P25 is less important. They describe the AR8200 as "Hand-held wide band receiver" and not as a "scanner".
In the past far more of the development was done in the UK but the recent models have only come here when at late prototype stage for development input.
I tend to use my AOR radios as receivers...my Unidens are my scanners

I wish Uniden would listen to their European customers more...at least they have now done a couple of scanners that have a bandplan that almost matches ours!

GRE haven't really got much of a presence here which is also a shame as I'd like to see how they perform on the few APCO P25 systems we have...the Unidens are no better than the AOR P25 decoder.

To bring it properly back round to the topic...good listening with your 8200!
