Where would be a good source that would sell a fully unblocked aor 8200 MKIII at a reasonable price here in the states?

No place unless you have a govt purchase order, then Universal and Scannermaster will sell you one. Otherwise look on eBay.
There really isn't much to listen to in the blocked range now and as of next week it becomes even less likely to hear anything as the

Nothing is up with them. Laws in the USA prevent scanner manufacturers/retailers from selling scanners that can recieve the old analogue cell phone frequencies.
Radios such as the AR8200 are therefore manufactured with two sets of firmware - one for use in the real world (and for authorised federal users in the USA) with continuous coverage and one for the USA hobby market. The firmware is not user programmable.

There is little reason for a user in the USA to go to the expense of getting an 'unblocked' unit as the parts of the spectrum they cannot recieve is little used now and presumably won't be re-allocated for a few years yet.

But you nailed the frequency spectrum is up for bid from the FCC so who knows to you it might not be useful but down the road something useful might be there, that might make you want to change your current statement.

If in fact we are talking if something useful where to take place but for now you are 100% correct. I just don't like the restriction and besides I travel alot so in other regions it makes for some interesting eves dropping

If'n I don't make any mistake, radio repair shops are also authorized to purchase unblocked receviers, too. Also, I think that cell phone companies may buy them, as well as, local guvment. Lot more folks than Feds may buy them, just not any ole Joe Blow.

I wouldn't exactly call those parts of the spectrum "little used" since digital cell phones operate there.

In any case, I'm still holding onto every one of my older full-coverage receivers manufactured during the "free radio listening era" prior to Congress setting a dangerous precedent of radio frequency censorship by requiring scanners to be "blocked" so the cell phone industry can continue to perpetuate their commercially serving lies about privacy.

Actually the AOR8200 MKIII is very easy to buy.
There is a company called Javialtion.
They ared in the UK and are very reputable.

Untill reciently Japanese dealers would not sell to usa buyers but I guess they finally figured out that er are suckers and that there was good money to be made by selling to us. Even if the manufacture gets mad at them.
The 8200 is very easy to get it is only a matter of the cash you need to spend on the radio.
BTW have you looked at the R20? IMHO it may be a better adio and is a whole lot easier to operate than the very complex 8200MK3.

Oh and also Do not worry about IMPORTING this radio. there is no problem they will be sent and if you use a trackable carrier (I prefer fed ex) you will receive it very fast with no customs issues.

I just got a new 8200 mk III, unblocked, off of EBay. I've been using a Yupiteru 7100 and while the AOR probably is a better radio, I don't think I want to invest the time it's going to take to 'learn' it.

I'll take what I gave for it; 400.00 plus shipping.

Nothing but noise if you can even get that I would imagine in that range. Sure their are some AMPS left, but what you want to listen to honey get some bread on the way home.
