I've travelled the region several times over the years but not since NHP jumped to the NSRS system. In May I will be travelling through Laughlin up to US 95. Through Searchlight and into Vegas then up 1-15 to Mesquite back into Utah. Since I'm not sure what sites cover where other than Utah Hill for Mesquite and Sunrise Mtn for most of Vegas (Boulder Hwy/1-515 corridor?) Which sites are most active along 95 and 1-15 back to Utah. Any help would be appeciated. Thanks.

Spirit Mountain north of Laughlin will help you out a great deal. Oatman Mtn. on the AZ side will also be of benefit to you. If the Opal Mtn. site near BC is up and runnning add it. It sometimes carries NHP traffic and sometimes not. NHP units also use the LVMPD Rural repeater along US95 (158.850) so don't forget this one. In the south part of the LV valley the Sloan site is most useful then Sunrise Mtn. The Overton Site will help you well East of LV and the Beaver Dam Mtn. will cover the Mesquite area as you proceed into Mohave Co AZ and then through the gorge and into UT. Hope this helps you.

It does help thanks. Should I add Mt. Potosi as well? Also what talkgroups are the most common on those sites? I'd rather stick to NHP traffic only and ignore the other stuff and scan in closed mode. Thanks again!

Given your route of travel Mt. Potosi might not be of any great help. I suggest programming in the talkgroups that NHP uses. They are:
05-121 LV 1
05-122 LV 2
05-123 ALLIED (NHP Units Heard Along With Others)
05-124 LV 3 (Usually Rural Units Heard But Not Always)
05-125 NHP Car-to-Car 1
05-126 NHP Car-to-Car 2
05-127 LV 4 Special Events NHP Involvement
05-130 NHP Car-to-Car 3

Happy listening

I don't see Spirit Mountain listed on the RR Database. I have found everything else and matched it up with the Southern Nevada Radio guide (December,2004 edition) but there is no mention of Spirit. I plan to update the guide but I am waiting for the most current one to come out. I don't want to shell out the moola now and have a new guide drop next month! Is Spirit really Xmas Tree Pass?

Spirit is Christmas Tree. I have not verified the following but this was the plan that the State set up for this site:
Public Safety in LCN Order: 866.2875, 866.8750, 867.3250, 868.2375, 868.5250, and 868.8000.
Non-Public Safety in LCN Order: 854.9625, 855.9875, and 856.9625

Oatman Mtn. (In Arizona) also covers the Laughlin area rather well.

Thanks for all the help. I do remember scanning Xmas Tree on the VHF system while travelling through back in '04. I have a PRO-2067 in my Super Sport sporting an Antennex 800 Mhz 6" whip with RG 6 cable. Pretty much the same set up in all three of my vehicles except the others sport Maxrad 6" whips. I pick up all the major 800 sites here in Utah near perfect as well as getting VHF from Central Southern Utah from nearly a hundred miles out. Last fall while near Mesquite I was picking up several of the LVMPD VHF channels rather well (South Western and maybe Bolden I can't remember) and, of course, the 158.850 LVMPD Rural channel for the Bunkerville area but mostly I heard Laughlin units I believe.
