Try these

Hi ,

I am in california, but found that 457.5125 is common for a lot of fast food restuarants. Try searching 30-35 MHz and 457 - 458 MHz and let us know what turns up. Keep in mind the signal usually does not go beyond a few hundred feet by design.

mike

EDIT: Hey, since you have a scanner with Close call, it would probably be worth a try.

If you do a search with google search engine all these frequencies will come up.

I think many of those headsets are in the 900 mhz range. I am sure they are pretty low power so the close call might not work from 500 yards. If you really want to know the frequency, just go make an order at the drive-thru with the close call on.

I too haven't really had much success with close call at drive thrus. I know there was a site i saw a while back with a big list of them, some of them seem to work. They're usually easy to find by scanning because there will be an open carrier on some. Just need to know the right range to search.

Many of the 900 MHz units are Wide Band FM, so most scanners can't pick them up easily. You will need a scanner, such as the BC330 and BC396, which can be set to receive WFM signals.

Drive thrus

I am about 1/4 mile or so from a McDonald's (and a couple of other drive-thrus). I've found them talking on GMRS frequencies. Try 462 or 467 MHz.

There are also several others in that VHF itenerant range that fast food joints still use, such as 154.6, 154.57, etc.

Back in the mid 90's a particular Mc Donald's in Dallas kept getting harassed over their radio ordering system. They complained to the Dallas FCC office so the FCC sent an enforcement agent to monitor their system. They caught the guy, turned out he had a van full of radios and scanners and worked as a news "stringer" for a local network TV station. I recall he lost his radios and was fined, plus he was a news story on the local media stations.

A few years ago, at least two of our local McDonalds were operating in the 30 MHz band. I personally picked each of them at least 2 miles away in my car.

I knew the previous owner of several local McDonalds. I mentioned that you could monitor the drive-thru lane on a scanner. He said he knew that and he occasionally parked neaby and listened to check up on his employees courtesy when talking to customers.

Now that's some damned fine and very useful info there, Mick. :) Thanks for sharing... when I get my 246T I'll have to devote some space to some of that stuff just on the off chance I might be interested in knowing what the hottie in the blue Geo is ordering for lunch at Taco Bell. hehehe
